Crimson Oasis
Growing up on the east coast, living near the Susquehanna River, my favorite part of the summer was seeing all of the dragonflies, fireflies, butterflies and cattails. We don't see of any of those in Colorado, except the dragonflies. Ours are the translucent blue and green variety.
For 'Crimson Oasis,' I wanted to showcase a lesser known dragonfly – the Neurothemis Terminata. Their wing tips are translucent and show color of the environment they are in.
Each portion of this dragonfly, water lily and lily pad is hand cut, shaped, and painted. The frame is made of Wenge, hand sanded and finished with Sam Maloof oil.
