Our first beach trip in years took us down the California coast in 2022, and I couldn't stop looking at the rocks jutting out of the water and the trees leaning over the shoreline. I'd grabbed a couple of wood burls from a local shop right before we left with no plan for them. Somewhere over the flight home it clicked: epoxy waves crashing around the burl, the way the water hit those rocks.

This one's all deep green and white foam, which is where the name comes from, atrovirens is Latin for dark green. The two burls sit in it like rocks the tide keeps washing over. One of a kind, like each of these, with its own hue and character.
